Ultraprocessed Food Consumption increase the risk of type 2 diabetes

An increase of 10% in the diet of foods to deep industrial processing is associated with an increase in the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) (hazard ratio 1.15 [95% CI, 1.06-1.25]). The results remained statistically significant after adjusting for nutritional quality of the diet, for other metabolic comorbidities and for weight change in the participants.

In observational prospective study included 104 707 participants over 18 years of age without cardiovascular disease in the period from 2009 to 2019 years (median follow-up was 6 years).  Information about the actual diet was collected in repeated 24-hour dietary records (the analysis included more than 3,500 different foods categorized by their degree of industrial processing according to NOVA classifications).
